The brief was to enlarge a dark semi-basement and make it a bright family space which flowed into the garden. The roof design held the key. It is in two staggered plates, one higher than the other. The higher one has circular roof lights and incorporates a green roof. The gap between the two is a glazed clerestory. The higher ceiling appears to float below its concealed LED perimeter lighting.
