Monnow Valley Arts centre occupied an historic group of farm buildings set in an area of Outstanding Landscape Value. The new studio building had to be a place that stimulated the creativity of visiting artists. The farm buildings are of local stone, slate and weathered oak. These were the principal external materials for the studio. Inside, glu-lam timber cruck frames support butterfly-shaped steel brackets which hold the twin ridge beams. Frameless glass windows give wide views of the Black Mountains.
